3 Ways to Leverage HOAs for Leads

August 19 2019

hdc leverage hoas for leadsThere are nearly endless lead generation strategies that opportunistic real estate agents can use to create new business. One underused strategy is connecting with and leveraging home owners associations (HOAs) in your area. HOAs often have well-established communications with homeowners and renters in their neighborhood.

Do some research to find out how different HOAs in your area work, and consider ways you could help the association and its members. Usually things that benefit the HOA will also benefit you as they open opportunities for networking, exposure, and new listings.

Once you know what you can offer, reach out to the association's committee or point of contact to establish a connection and see if they would like to work with you. Some ways you can work with HOAs are below.

Seminars

Providing valuable information is always a great way to get someone to remember you, so hosting educational seminars for buyers, renters, and homeowners is a great way to connect with potential clients. Not only can you help move people closer to a home sale, in the process, you will be able to build your reputation as the local expert. To make an even stronger connection with them, let your attendees know that you always have time to work with people from their neighborhood.

Events

Do you like having fun, raising money, or getting together for a good cause? There are a lot of neighborhood-centric opportunities to do just that. Hosting events like community yard sales, block parties, or cleanups can help you meet potential buyers and sellers and provide quality networking time. Events like these can also help create a sense of community in the neighborhood, which you can leverage as the neighborhood real estate agent. If you're hosting a larger event, consider teaming up with other local companies to sponsor the event.

Communications

Homeowner associations often have important distribution infrastructure that you can leverage to the mutual benefit of you and the association. The HOA's newsletter, social profiles, and website are all areas where you can share valuable insights and gain exposure. If the HOA doesn't already reach their members in these ways, offer to help them set up and run these initiatives.

If the HOA does already have a presence via web or newsletter, offer to share market insights, local news, and other content their members should be aware of. Remember to include a short call-to-action at the end of each post, article, or newsletter letting readers know that if they are looking to buy or sell, you're there to help.

Approaching prospects through the HOA gives you an advantage over other area agents and helps you brand yourself as that neighborhood's agent.
