NAR Announces Innovative Simulation Training to Tackle Discrimination in Real Estate
New interactive training simulation helps agents identify, confront discrimination in homebuying CHICAGO (November 19, 2020) -- The National Association of Realtors today announced the release of a new interactive training platform designed to help combat discrimination in America's real estate market – made available at no cost to real estate professionals throughout the country. Fairhaven is an immersive simulation where agents work against the clock to close four deals, confronting various scenarios where discrimination enters into the transaction. The training, which also provides customized feedback to help real estate professionals incorporate fair housing principles in their daily interactions, will be offered directly to NAR members and to brokerage firms and Realtor® associations. It was produced in partnership with global professional services firm Ernst and Young. "We are excited to announce the release of Fairhaven today, a new approach to fair housing training that is unlike anything currently available in the real estate industry," said Charlie Oppler, the CEO of Prominent Properties Sotheby's International Realty who was installed as NAR's 2021 president this week. "Fairhaven uses the immersive power of storytelling to deliver powerful lessons that will help promote equity in our nation's housing market. NAR will continue our work to create innovative anti-discrimination training and to champion efforts that encourage diversity, fight racial bias and build more inclusive communities." In the fictional town of Fairhaven, agents must choose how to respond to various scenarios involving discrimination in real estate. They advance through the simulation based on their answers and receive feedback on their performance. In an innovative approach, the course also places agents in the role of a client experiencing discrimination. The client point-of-view scenarios are paired with powerful testimonials illustrating the impact of housing discrimination in real people's lives. Fairhaven.realtor comes as part of NAR's ACT! Initiative, the association's fair housing action plan that emphasizes Accountability, Culture Change and Training to promote equal opportunity in real estate. In addition to training, the ACT! plan introduces self-testing and other mechanisms for holding real estate professionals accountable for discrimination. As industry leaders in support of fair housing initiatives, NAR will make the resource available to all NAR members, industry partners and other real estate professionals directly via an online portal, found at Fairhaven.realtor. NAR will also offer Fairhaven as a software package for brokerage and association learning management systems. RPR Unveils New Learning Menu
RPR, an exclusive REALTOR® benefit and the nation's largest property database, just got stronger and easier to use. A new Learning Menu, which resides within the navigation, went live in early April. RPR users will now be able to access learning videos, articles, FAQs and more, while they're accessing deep real estate data, running property reports, and prepping to "wow" their clients. Although RPR is quite intuitive and user-friendly, the new Learning Menu will really come in handy when users need a little hint or nudge to help them complete a task on the website. This self-directed knowledge source is offered via a pull-down menu, described below. Click of the Cap Here's how the new RPR Learning Menu works: from the top of each home page, there is an icon that looks like a graduation cap. Clicking on the cap icon will unveil content that directly relates to where the user is navigating. Although there are many learning resources within every area of the site, not necessarily every page will have learning content. When learning content is available, the graduation cap will be white. If there is no learning content on a particular page, the graduation cap will be greyed out. Grabbing Your Attention The screenshot below shows the Learning Menu expanded on the Property Details page. From the example, you can see that the user has clicked the graduation cap icon to reveal the Learning Menu for this section. From here, watch a video tutorial on pricing a property, read relevant articles, and click directly to additional training and learning aids, such as how-to's and webinars. Additional content, along with varied learning levels (basic to advanced) will be added over time.   WASHINGTON (January 14, 2016) — To capitalize on growing demand for expert property assessment and increased interest in online learning courses, the National Association of Realtors® is now offering a Pricing Strategies Advisor certification available entirely online through the new Center for Realtor® Development. The Pricing Strategy Advisor certification combines a course and webinars to enhance Realtors®' skills in pricing properties, working with appraisers, and understanding, finding and making adjustments to comparable properties. The course is designed for Realtors® of all experience levels and those who work with either buyers or sellers.
